LAIKO GENERAL HOSPITAL  

The First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine can be found on the 3rd floor of Laiko General Hospital. Main priority or the Department is best care for the patients. It is an active Department in Research and Continuing Medical Education as well.

The First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine has recently been renovated (2008) with the support of the Hospital Manager and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. 42 patients can be seen in 2 or 3-bed rooms with ensuite bathroom so as to improve the quality of life for the patients during their stay.

The First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine medical personnel include: 10 Academic Doctors (5 Professors, 4 Assοciate Professors and 1 Assistant Professor) and 8 NHS Doctors (4 Directors, 1 Consultant A’, 2 Consultants B’, 1 Adjunct Consultant) and 29 Doctors in Specialty Training.

Associates of the First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine include: 6 Academic Scholars and 3 Clinical Researchers.

 

Admissions

Patients can be admitted to the First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine through the Accident and Emergency Department or through the various Outpatients Departments affiliated to it. Patients in need of Medical Consultation, including patients with Autoimmune, Endocrine, Haematological, Infectious, Metabolic, Oncological or other conditions can be managed in the Department.

The First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine participates to the General Rota for Patients’ admission from the Emergency Department every 4 days. According to the Hospital Statistics in 2017 1.937 unplanned patients’ admissions, 31 planned patients’ admissions and 13 patients’ admissions as per doctor’s request to the Department were registered.

 

Medical Consultations

Medical Consultation is often requested for patients admitted to other Departments or seen at the Outpatients Department of other Medical and Surgical Specialties.

 

Continuing Medical Education

Continuing Medical Education activities are organized and patients are often actively involved in the training program of Students from the Athens University Medical School (4th year, 6th year), as well as Students from the Dental and Nursing School. Academic Consultants, NHS Consultants and Doctors in Specialty Training are engaged with the Continuing Medical Educational activities.

 

GENERAL (INTERNAL) MEDICINE OUTPATIENTS DEPARTMENT

The Outpatients Department of the First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine is based at the Outpatients Department of Laiko General Hospital, Agiou Thoma 17, 11527.

Patients can be seen with an appointment through the IASIS System – “Health Line” 1535, from Monday to Friday 8:00am-2:30pm. Patients in need of medical review are seen by Consultants (Academic and NHS) and Doctors’ in Specialty Training.
