INFECTIOUS DISEASES CLINIC

Clinical activities

The Outpatients Department of Infectious Diseases, Immunisations and Travel Medicine, First Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine, is based on the 1st floor at the Outpatients’ Department, Laiko General Hospital of Athens. The Infectious Diseases clinic commenced on September 2018, in association with other Infectious Diseases clinics of Laiko General Hospital of Athens. Currently, patients are seen by Dr Angelos Toskas, General (Internal) Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant, and Dr. Fotinie Ntziora, General (Internal) Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant. Doctors on training for the sub-Specialty of Infectious Diseases or the Specialty of General (Internal) Medicine may also attend the Infectious Diseases clinic, on rotation, according to their training schedule.

 

Referrals to the Outpatients’ Department of Infectious Diseases, Immunisations and Travel Medicine include:

  1. Patients who have recently been admitted to the Hospital and need to be followed-up at the Outpatients’ Department for review of the antimicrobial treatment and further planning after discharge
  2. Patients requiring Infectious Diseases Consultation who are otherwise well enough not to need to be admitted to the Hospital
  3. Adults requiring Infectious Diseases Consultation on Antimicrobial Prophylaxis and Immunisations
  4. Immunocompromised patients requiring Infectious Diseases Consultation on Antimicrobial Prophylaxis and Immunisations (referrals from Haematology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Diabetes, Respiratory, Cardiovascular or other Departments) or adults with medical  conditions affecting the function of their immune system (genetic factors, transplantation, immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory treatment)
  5. Adults who are planning to Travel and require Infectious Diseases Consultation on Travel Medicine, Prevention of Infectious Diseases, Epidemics, Immunisationw and anti-malarial prophylaxis. The Outpatients’ Department of Infectious Diseases, Immunisations and Travel Medicine of Laiko General Hospital of Athens is part of the Travel Medicine Clinics network in association with the Hellenic Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Ministry of Health) and the Public Health authorities (Attiki Prefecture).

 

Outpatients’ Department of Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone and Joint Infections

The Outpatients’ Department of Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone and Joint Infections is based on the 1st floor at the Outpatients’ Department, Laiko General Hospital of Athens, and commenced on September 2018. Patients are reviewed by a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) including an Infectious Diseases Specialist and depending on patients’ needs by Diabetologists, Orthopedic Surgeons, Vascular Surgeons and more. For the First Department of Propaedeutic Medicine, patients are seen by Dr Angelos Toskas, General (Internal) Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant, and Dr. Fotinie Ntziora, General (Internal) Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant. Collaborators of the Outpatients’ Department of Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone and Joint Infections are: Professor N. Sipsas, General (Internal) Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant, and Dr. A. Drakou, Orthopedic Surgeon Consultant. Doctors on training for the sub-Specialty of Infectious Diseases or the Specialty of General (Internal) Medicine may also attend the Infectious Diseases clinic, on rotation, according to their training schedule.

 

Referrals to the Outpatients’ Department of Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone and Joint Infections include:

  1. Patients who have recently been admitted to the Hospital and need to be followed-up at the Outpatients’ Department for review of the antimicrobial treatment and need for surgical intervention as well as for further planning after discharge
  2. Patients requiring Consultation for Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone or Joint Infections who are otherwise well enough not to need to be admitted to the Hospital
  3. Diabetic patients requiring Consultation for Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone or Joint Infections for initial evaluation and further planning
  4. Patients who had previous orthopedic, vascular or other surgery and requiring Consultation for Skin, Soft Tissue, Bone or Joint Infections for initial evaluation and further planning
